Many people don’t realize that a neck lift, or lower rhytidectomy, can make a dramatic difference in their appearance and personal confidence. A neck lift (lower rhytidectomy/face lift) is a surgical procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the jawline and neck. This procedure treats excess fat that may have accumulated around the neck or jawline and relaxes the skin in the lower face that creates jowls. A neck lift is also good for individuals with loose neck skin and muscle banding in the neck.
Some people who are considering a facial cosmetic procedure usually feel they are not ready for a full face lift because the upper face is still pleasing. However, it is not uncommon for patients to feel dissatisfied with their neck area, and note that there is excess wrinkling of the neck skin, a “turkey wattle” or double chin, and jowl lines. When the neck area doesn’t match the upper facial appearance, a neck lift may be a good solution.
Patients who receive a neck lift typically want an additional corresponding procedure, like a brow lift or maybe an eyelid surgery. After the neck lift procedure, you will have the surgical sites bandages and be instructed to keep your head elevated and asked to refrain for any strenuous activity until healing is complete. Please note that you should NOT apply ice to the neck area, as this may cause skin death and compromise blood flow.
